Caring for the urban forest around the Fremont Troll.

The Friends of the Troll's Knoll is a community group dedicated to maintaining and activating the green space around the Fremont Troll. Our vision is to expand the existing Troll’s Knoll park to the east side right-of-way.

Current Projects

We are raising funds to install heavy, durable basalt benches designed by a local sculptor in front of the Troll and in the Troll's Knoll forest. These benches will make it easier for people with mobility issues to enjoy the site and provide a spot to sit and enjoy the space. We will also be adding smaller benches throughout the forest.

Mushroom Lantern Replacement

We are raising funds to replace the damaged mushroom lantern sculptures to bring the magic back to the forest.

We are incredibly grateful to our community of organizations, individuals, and government donors who make these improvements possible.

About Us.

In 2010, Friends of the Troll’s Knoll was awarded a grant for creation of a park through the Parks & Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Fund. The original funding proposal included plans for a park on both the east and west sides of the Troll. However, due to budget limitations, the east side was removed from the project scope and it remains an opportunity for additional development. The west side Troll’s Knoll Park opened in 2016 and includes a thriving P-Patch. Our vision is to expand the existing Troll’s Knoll Park to encompass the green space on both sides for the Fremont Troll.
