New Garden by the mural

What is going on with the new triangular shaped garden by the Aurora Bridge Mural?

It hasn’t been lost on neighbors that the triangular planting strip on the backside of the Aurora Bridge Mural has received an upgrade. This area, which gets a lot of weeds and litter, needed some love. It is kind of a challenge though because it gets a lot of sun and doesn’t have water access.

Some pavers and some flower bulbs were put in last year and a drought resistant flower mix was tried (thanks to some funding from the Fremont Chamber of Commerce) but it wasn’t totally successful as a flower garden, especially during August and September.

For 2024, we have a better idea of what cut flowers do well here (we increased the flower bulbs) and we also increased the pavers so fewer plants are damaged. Long term we are thinking of having it be a Cut Flower Garden dedicated to Dr. Rodman Miller, a glass and neon artist who was responsible for a lot of Fremont’s Public Art. He was known to carry flower bulbs and offer them to people to plant. He passed away in 2021. If you are interested in donating to improve this space and obtaining a plaque to honor Dr. Miller use this link.

Here is what the garden looked like before this year’s improvements:
